John de la Howe School
"South Carolina's Home for Children"

The Equine Program offers an experiential learning environment for our students through active involvement with the John de la Howe School's horses. The program's goal is to help students achieve positive personal growth through their interactions with the horses, drawing on the natural therapeutic value offered by the animals. The Equine Program fosters confidence, trust, and pride while teaching responsibility, respect, and safety. While caring for their horses, stable gear and equipment, the students learn life lessons including responsibility and respect for others and self. The learning process culminates with the students reaching the riding stage. At this point, they explore our beautiful riding trails located throughout our 1200-acre campus. The total curriculum provides a unique opportunity for the children to experience a nurturing, therapeutic environment.
